Community Impact: Electricity TDU Charge Increase
Posted on Oct 21st, 2023
Seeing increased electricity charges? Effective September 1, the CenterPoint Energy TDU charges (transmission and distribution fees) increased from 3.7332 cents/KWH to 5.46944 cents/KWH. This PUC (Texas Public Utility Commission) approved change equates to a 46.5% increase. All retail electrical provider contracts include the provision to adjust the net rate with any changes in TDU charges. This increase impacts all homeowners across the CenterPoint Energy distribution network which includes most of the Houston area. This fee increases in the winter to account for lower electricity usage and decreases in the spring to account for higher usage in the summer.
